THE STORY

I wanted to share my weird story of American mayhem straight from the hell hole known as The Wal-Mart.

About 15 years ago my wife and I were leaving one such Walmart, after a less than optimal (but par for the course) trip, when we bumped into an old high school friend of mine. A few minutes into our chat, an acquaintance of my friend passed by and as they exchanged pleasantries, my wife and my attention became fixed upon an old Micronesian man and what appeared to be his young grandson.

The boy was carrying a helium-filled balloon, and he was busying himself by checking the coin returns of all the machines he passed while the old man sat down on a bench. A few seconds after the old man sat down, the little boy released his balloon. He immediately ran to the old man and pointed to the balloon that was now about 10 feet in the air and fast approaching the tall ceiling of the lobby. The old man, in a very nonchalant manner, began giving the balloon the “come here” motion with his finger. I immediately began to laugh, because.. it’s hilarious, but my laugh soon ceased and I was amazed as the ballon started floating back to the old man…I looked at my wife, and as we were confirming what we had seen with each other, we turned to witness the very same thing AGAIN, only this time the balloon wasn’t nearly as far away, and it seemed to float sideways to the old man…

Anyway, I’m still not convinced that what my wife and I witnessed was supernatural, but it has become a favorite story of ours and I just wanted to share!
