The Owl Man
WITNESS
THE STORY
Now, as a bit of disclosure, when I was a child I was prone to nightmares. I woke up so many nights screaming and crying for my mother that my older brother basically wanted to kill me so I would shut up. However, I was also prone to dreams in which things would happen that later transpired in my waking life, exactly as they had in the dream. My mother remembers this well, although I can only recall a couple instances vividly enough to call them memories. I bring these two facts up as two potential and opposing explanations to the phenomena. Either A. I had a bad dream, or B. I am/was open to certain frequencies/energies not otherwise accessible, and experienced something truly supernatural. Of course, there is always C. Some other explanation.
| THE EXPERIENCE
The night in question, I must have been either 2, 3, or 4 years old because I remember it was at a time when I was still sleeping in a crib, but was able to lower the gate myself and climb out. I woke up in the middle of the night to a strange figure standing over me in my crib. At first, I thought it was my brother, but as my eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room (which was lit only by my nightlight), and the silhouette came more into focus, I saw that this was not my brother at all – it was (I don’t know how to say this without sounding weird) an owl man! It had the face of what I know today is a barn owl – huge, hollow black eyes, a white circular face, and a long pointed beak.) This creature had the torso of a man, wearing a robe made of a burlap/wool material – like a monk. (In fact, even at that time I recognized it as the clothing of a monk because of Disney’s Robin Hood cartoon movie, and friar Tuck). I did not see it’s hands or feet, if it had any. I couldn’t move, I was frozen in fear, and I felt as if this thing had come to take me away. I screamed at the top of my lungs, “MOOOMMMMYYYYY”, and it was gone in an instant.
I kept up the screaming and sobbing until my mother arrived from her upstairs bedroom to see what was the matter. I told her there had been “a scary owl man” in my room, and she assured me it was just a bad dream. I will never forget that experience as long as I live. As I’ve grown older and started to open up again (I shut down a lot of my spirituality in my teens and 20s), I have started to experience “forward-looking” dreams and vivid nightmares again with more frequency, like back when I was a kid, but nothing before or since has seemed THIS real, or at least… not this terrifying.
